WANG WANG

Joyce Wang Studio has unveiled the Mandarin Oriental Penthouse at the newly refurbished Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London. Reminiscent of a luxurious London apartment, with bespoke-designed furniture of unparalleled quality and finish, the magnificent three-bed penthouse is an elegantly understated celebration of its iconic London surroundings. Inspired by the hotel’s unique location, every detail takes inspiration from the park and the ever-changing skies over the city.

To curate this rare peace in the heart of London, our studio has crafted one-off furniture pieces, layering sumptuous materials in soft, muted colours to create an overall feeling of reserved, relaxed opulence. the design narrative woven throughout the rest of the hotel; a revival of the 20th Century Golden Age of travelling combined with signature silhouettes from the era including Art Deco detailing, integrated with park-side inspired botanical textures and colours.

The hotel’s Penthouse Suites light fixtures reference the Crown Jewels collection design; their geometries and settings interpreted by our studio into illuminated jewellery. Opal glass bedside wall lights resemble pearls, set like gems, flanking each side of the custom-design master bed.

A tricolore mosaic backdrop for our Penthouse guest bathroom, complete with oblong vanity mirrors and counters with fluted mirror aprons. These bathrooms are uniquely located at the turret locations of the hotel and so, benefit from beautiful natural light. Sliding open, a elegant take on the rhythmic Hyde Park ironwork envelops the guestroom. Beyond the horizon, a diptych mirror artwork brings silhouette of shifting trees to light.

Sliding open the double doors one enters into the grandeur of the master bathroom, with a free-standing soaking tub taking centre stage against a book matched marble backdrop. The fluted mirror design for vanity apron fronts carry through from the bedside table designs; drawing parallels in detail between bathroom and bedroom.

The penthouse’s flexible architectural plan is centred on two interconnecting suites; the Mandarin and the Oriental, designed to form a three-bed suite spanning the entire length of the 9th floor to create one of the most expansive penthouse suites in London.  The suite’s astounding five private alfresco terraces wrap around the entire perimeter of the landmark hotel and provide unrivalled panoramic views across London’s iconic skyline.
